Serious question: why does the sale of this land *force* Millwall to move from the New Den? This land, if I understand it correctly (and I don't claim to be particularly well informed), is not integral to their match day operations and the sale would be, shall we say, an inconvenience and would probably reduce their potential income streams. But it would not force a move as stated in the 38 Degrees Campaign title.

I'm not for one second supporting the dodgy action of Lewisham Council (my council fwiw) but I think the consequences of their actions may be being overplayed.

For one, it will downgrade the Lions Academy status, so any half-decent youngsters will not even bother with Milwall. Secondly, it's about making Millwall isolated, surrounded by new development, which will cause the club to decline, and probably disappear. The loss of the car parking alone WILL severely affect their match day operations, and general access is vital too. But I'm not a Millwall fan, so don't know the finer details.

Thankyou Dulwich Mishi for bringing attention to this. It is indeed a stitch up that will eventually strangle our club and line the pockets of bent developers and corrupt councilors.

It will because the developers and not Lewisham council will be our new landlords. They will keep upping the rents until we are fucked.

To be fair, I remember the Old Den, and call it the New Den...but then I still refer to Champion Hill as 'the new ground'!

Not doubting you, but the Lewisham Council webpage says "There is no proposal to acquire any part of the Stadium itself which will remain in the Council’s freehold ownership with Millwall FC retaining a long leasehold interest" which would appear in direct contradiction with your assertion above? Can you provide a link which shows that the developers will be the new freeholders please?

I don't believe Lewisham plan to take over the ground. By the constraints placed on Millwall by what they have planned Millwall will have no choice but to go of their own accord, if they even survive.... then Lewisham Council/their development chums will get the rest of the land soon enough.

I think Millwall should form a Lions Party, with a one theme agenda, much asCharlton fans did all those years ago in Greenwich with the Valley Party.

I assume it restricts the expansion options milwall have, ultimately they (and every football club) want to get to the premier league and with a capacity of only 20k that either isn't possible or isn't sustainable.

This is being talked about so we shall see.

The last time Millwall were in the top flight their attendances were around 12-15,000, so the current 20,000 would be enough. That of course is not an argument in favour of property developers. What would Millwall do with the land if the council gave it to them?

Yes, but you want to compete in a league with average gates of 35k and 7 clubs who's gate is above 40k.

Without the owner constantly putting their hand in their pocket.
