From Moral Victory Facebook group (with usual disclaimers). Some nice seaside trips but Hashtag fucking United...

Been told 22 team Pitchero Isthmian Premier League to be ratified by the FA for Season 2023/2024 with attached teams the most probable

I must admit I was a bit sniffy about Hashtag United until recently. However they do seem to have built a genuine enthusiastic fanbase of several hundred and are currently sharing at Bowers & Pitsea, which is eastern outskirts of Basildon. I now liken them to a 21st century version of clubs like London Caledonians or The Casuals (and later Corinthian-Casuals), who were our regular Isthmian League opponents in the distant past. An itinerant club that has never had a ground of its own.

You're absolutely right but there's something about the name that winds me up, like Red Velvet in Peckham's league.

I'm exactly the same. Maybe we're just old fogeys? K Sports is another. And Rising Ballers. Even FC United of Manchester, which just looks like all the right words but not necessarily in the right order. Now we're faced with actually playing one of these clubs I need to find a way of accepting it.

I saw them back pre Covid when they were lodging at Haringay and playing in Thurlow Nunn Div 1 South. There were about 200 fans (real rather than virtual) in attendance even at that stage.

The fact they were at Haringey then, but Bowers & Pitsea now, is something I can't get my head around. How can you follow a club that moves around like that? If I lived in Haringey I'd support Haringey Borough and if I lived in the conurbation where they're now based I'd support Bowers & Pitsea or Basildon United. I guess they've just captured the imagination of a particular demographic.

In other news, I was reliably informed yesterday that Gary McCann, recently installed at Billericay as manager, has a playing budget of £6,000 per week.

No wonder he’s prepared to travel from Hammersmith (he lives in that area) to the depths of Essex on a regular basis, if he’s got that sort of budget at his disposal.

Not sure who’s bankrolling them these days but it looks like they’re going to be able to outspend anyone else in this league with that sort of money at their disposal.

Also, was at the London Senior Cup Final (it’s better than the Turvey) to watch Charlton Athletic U-21s beat Haringey Borough 5-3 aet. Cracking game between two good teams, played at Silver Jubilee Park.

Haringey had about 3-400 very vociferous supporters, who never stopped singing and supporting their team for the entire 120 minutes. Perfectly well-behaved throughout, I hasten to add.

Appreciate it was a final at a venue local to them, so they might not take that level of support every week but they could provide a very loud and colourful support at Champion Hill next season.

We’ve been here before…

Billericay are owned by a group of long standing genuine fans. A little birdie close to the club tells me some money is going in but less than you would expect. They've turned the club into a nice moneymaker by all reports - presumably centred around the artificial pitch.

My contact had actually spoken to Gary and knows him quite well and he actually quoted that figure back at him, so I have no reason to doubt it. If that cash is coming from a sustainable source, rather than some rich benefactor throwing money at the club, then good on them.

For all the downsides of the Tamplin era, it seems like he left some of the infrastructure in much better shape and didn't leave a load of debt behind. Looking forward to another visit, usually a happy hunting ground for us, we do well there.

This is a big regret from 10+ years of supporting Hamlet, apart from the FA Trophy run, and the FA cup first round, we've woefully underperformed in cups.

Margate and Chatham are playing the Kent cup final at Gillingham tonight and you can tell from Twitter the excitement from both sets of fans, who have both taken the competition seriously.

Maybe next year!

If the money is coming from the pitch then that's true. However, I fear the rest of the infrastructure will become a millstone in the medium to long term.

A good example is Farnborough. Various cashed up Chairmen have left them with a ground far too good for their recent Tier Two / Three existence. The club are quite open they'd much rather have less infrastructure in the ground, the maintenance costs are a real issue.

£6K a week is not massive for a well run club to be fair 😎

Despite that I Zingari existence Hashtag have managed to create a successful women’s team as well as development sides & a strong youth set up both for girls and boys. I do prefer them to some of the other “YouTube” sides like SE Dons who tend to play up the aggressive male stereotype of Sunday Football. Rising Ballers was also mentioned. Don’t know much about their men’s side (mid table CoCo I think) but I’ve played both against & for their women’s side and these are some of the most naturally talented female footballers I’ve come across. I suppose RB work in a similar way to Gavin’s Aspire Academy, sourcing unsigned talent that might have slipped through the net of pro football.

Definitely something I would expect of next season’s manager, whoever they might be, and that’s to take cup competitions seriously.

Rising Ballers Kensington was an existing CoCo Div One (Step six) team Rising Ballers effectively took over and re-named.

They had previously played Sunday League and Middlesex County as Rising Ballers FC and may still have other teams in the men's game.

Rising Ballers is an Academy set up. I'm told people have gone from there to play in the Premier League but have no idea who.
