Paul Thomas Anderson and David Lynch

savoloysam

Pigman's pigman's ha ha charade you are..
The greatest film makers IMO. Both reaching into the dark corners of the human psyche. Both have created some master pieces.

For me Magnolia is the greatest film ever made for me. Masterful in every way.

Any other modern films makers in this style worth checking out?

Is this some bizarre wind-up?

What do you mean by "this style"? I don't think PTA and Lynch particularly share a style

Robert Altman's Short Cuts has the same multiple interlinking stories + ensemble cast structure that Magnolia has (and is a better film) so you might like that.

I'm a Paul Thomas Anderson fan, a big one.

Magnolia however was utter utter wank imo. Pretentious, pointless, nothing. Film's like Magnolia make me wonder if the director is taking the piss.

Why do you think that? What PTA films do you rate?

PTA says he was in a strange state of mind when he wrote it but I think it's great in so many ways. I agree it needs patience to really enjoy it though.

Gosh. I thought magnolia was a magnificent film, certainly the best PTA yet. Short cuts is a bit rubbish in comparison.
