panzer iii weapons questions

in 2008 the norwegians dug up some panzer iii's which they had acquired after the defeat of germany at the end of the war. one of them has a peculiar cannon:

i thought maybe the cannon had been sawn off, but then i found this picture:

where the tank on the left has the same weapon. what is this weapon?

Looks like a short barrelled 75mm gun. Common on the IV as well. Infantry support mainly I believe.

Panzer III

Previous attempts were made on the Ausf.L to adapt the turret of thePanzer IV and its gun, but they failed. Later, Daimler-Benz succeeded in equipping the Panzer III turret with a new mantlet, accommodating the short barrel 75 mm (2.95 in) already largely produced for the early versions of the Panzer IV.
