Oyster machine has robbed me

telbert

Do you like sponge?
Last friday i tried to top up my oyster at Liverpool St Station.Put my debit card in,typed in my PIN and the then the transaction was cancelled with no top up added to my oyster.Just looked at my account and the tenner has been taken.Any ideas how i can get this back?

Oyster Card is a TFL thing.

I'd suggest contact them first.

www.tfl.gov.uk/oyster

0343 222 1234 * (08:00-20:00 seven days a week)

(although if your card is registered, may be worth a look online to see if the £ 10 was credited)[/QUOTE

Tried that number and been waiting for ages so i went to the tfl/oyster page and filled in a complaint form in less than a minute.Cheers:).I shall keep you all informed.

I've had oyster issues, rang them and they were worse than useless, saying they could only put money back on my(unregistered) card if i could tell them the exact date I'd next be using it and what station. I'm usually a cyclist - so to have this info is impossible. Then they suggested "perhaps you could take the train one day so we can refund you" - and didn't comprehend that the refund was less than the fare would be.

As an aside; anyone who went to carnival on Sunday and was waved through Kensal Rise Station with TFL ppl there saying 'don't worry, the machine is deactivated you wont be charged for an incomplete courney' - oh yes you were...

thieving bastards.

I'd contact your bank before contacting TFL.

Is it a transaction being processed? I recently had a card transaction declined by a newsagent, but it went through the second time.

I checked my online banking and it looked like two transactions were being processed. I called up my bank and they told me this is normal. Apparently when a card payment is declined the money is transferred to a holding account, if there are no disputes from the merchant you'll get your money back after 7 days.

If I'm honest this kind of shocked me as it means it is possible to stop someone accessing their own money by simply going around with there card and getting it declined. For example you can take someones card, try and make a £3000 purchase with an incorrect PIN, and that person wont be able to touch the declined £3000 for a week!

If you want to avoid this you'll have to pay cash!

Thank you for your email of 27 August regarding a refund for a purchase which did not load onto your Oyster card. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

When funds are deducted from your account for a product which is not credited on to your Oyster card, the funds are automatically returned by your bank within ten working days following the transaction.

In the event that you are not refunded by your bank within the next two weeks, we can investigate further. We would be happy to arrange a refund by bacs payment to your bank account.

In order to process the refund, we would need a copy of your bank statement showing your name and address, and covering the day of the transaction and at least fourteen days after the transaction.

We can then validate your loss of funds. You may of course, grey out any information that is sensitive and which does not relate to the matter.

This can be scanned and sent by return email, or a copy posted to Oyster Customer Services, 3rd Floor, 14 Pier Walk, London SE10 0ES.

Please mention your 12 digit Oyster card number and your reference number 4731443 when you contact us.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Please contact us again if you need any further assistance or if you would prefer to talk to us about this matter, please call us on 0343 222 1234.

They are pretty good at refunding you after faff ups. I've had several! Had to register my card though.

Can I ask whether your card was registered? I want to request a refund on an unregistered card and am looking around for info at the moment.

Thank you! Bassstards! I don't want to register my card as then I can let other people use it for Pay As You Go.

i am fairly sure you can let other people use payg on a registered oyster card. you can't both use it at the same time, and having someone else use a travelcard that is on oyster may be dodgy, but can't see what the problem would be on payg.

will get back to you when i get home and can search more easily.

Lending your Oyster card to others

If your Oyster card only has adult rate pay as you go credit on it, you can lend it to someone else, even if the card is registered in your name.

An Oyster card can't be used by anyone other than the registered user if it has one of the following on it:

  • Travelcard or Bus & Tram Pass season ticket
  • Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount
  • Bus & Tram discount
  • National Railcard discount

Thank you; that's kind. Not that I would *cough* but a person lending out a registered card with a travel card might get into trouble... The 2.20 lost one day would already have been saved by the lendee. :)
