The C word shouldn't even be mentioned before December

Totally agree.

The lights in Hackney have been on for about three weeks now but they are not particularly Christmassy just plain blue in colour. The idea seems to be that they put them on for Diwalli and leave them on until Chinese New Year is over so they are a sort of multi cultural thing.

this is a fairly perennial thread. similar to 'wtf that bang?' thread in the weeks running up to 5th november.

i may have a mince

Which reminds me, the Lord Mayor's Fireworks are this weekend in case anyone asks what all the noise is

I don't get the big deal. They always go up about now don't they? Anyone I'm pretty sure a lot of people are starting to think about Xmas seeing as it's really not that far away.

If you want early try the shop I was in some time in the '80s who had their Xmas stuff up in September.

You see, I can just about accept the 19th Nov for somewhere as commercial as Oxford St, but the day after Halloween - and four days before Guy Fawkes night - well, that just seems too rushed.

but people do plan xmas this early. if you get paid the last week of the month, as many do, you need to start shopping in late october if it isn't all to come out of one pay packet.

Day before Guy Fawkes in 2009 to coincide with Jim Carey's film release...

Xmas marks the spot?

It's uber capitalism on a grand scale, This year Xmas can fuck right off
Good will to all men YES. Contributing to the machines record profits reports No.

No one believes in god any more so why the hypocrisy?

Quite frankly I'll make an effort for my kids the rest of it can do one.

Scrooge had the right idea, well he did before he had his breakdown.

I saw my first xmas tree in the local supermarket yesterday and the laundrette opposite has lights up in the window.

I suppose the populace is particularly in need of comforting this year - Aldi had their first batch of Stollen in maybe 6 weeks ago.

Mr. Kipling's Mince pies are 3 for one at the moment ...
