Peter Gabriel's Up - a bit bloaty, but still quality. I'm sure there's some concept contained within but it aint that obvious. Plus there seems to be a track which is an 'update' of Don't Give Up, both lyrically and musically.

St. Anger. And as much as I hate to admit it, it sounds really shit.

Darkness

That's interesting 'cause I think it's the best thing they've done since the black album.

Currently listening to:

Best of the Chrysalis Years by The Ramones
Chinatown by The Be Good Tanyas
Live and Dangerous by Thin Lizzy

IMHO I think that their downfall started then. The "Black Album" was an attempt to make the band more MTV - friendly, hence the shorter songs for a start.

I think their best work was up to and including ...And Justice For All.

Regarding St. Anger, it's great that they're incorporating new ideas (tuned down guitars for instance), but to me the new album actually physically sounds bad.

But maybe that's just me.

I don't doubt that the Black album was a change of direction for them. However, it still has some heavy as fuck tracks such as Sad but True which was detuned. Well dropped D which is good enough for me. ;)

I really rate the new album. I do think it's a grower even if I liked it straight away, I'm finding after repeated plays it gets better and better

...And Justice For All and Garage Days was the first Metallica stuff I got into and will always have a special place in my heart.

Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets were my era...I still love them

as for Metallica Scott is right a change of direction but a blinding album nevertheless

yet to really give the new album a good listen
