old routemasters

I haven't gone to the Gravesend thing - combination of feeling crappy, railway engineering works at both ends of the journey, and absence of the 'further information' that was promised.

With organising these events, there's a balance to be struck - you don't want to put so much information on the web that people won't bother to buy a programme on the day, but you need to give enough information for people to think it's worth going to the damn thing...

Two things next weekend for Sunday 20 October

Autumn 'Transport Fest' at London Bus Museum, Brooklands. Although for reasons unclear, this isn't showing on the classic bus website or LOTS events listing, or in the listings of most recent 'bus + coach preservation' magazine, so might just be worth a phone call / e-mail to make sure it's happening. And be aware the M25 / A3 junction is closed to all traffic that weekend.

Also, a bit north of london, but a smallish event based on Biggleswade (facebook page)

London Bus Museum have also put up dates (currently provisional) for their big running days for 2025 -

route 19 (Finsbury Park - Battersea) on 29 March

route 418 (Epsom - Kingston) on 8 June

route 54 (Woolwich - Elmers End) on 13 September

and major events at Brooklands on 13 April, 22 June and 19 October.

Sunday 15 December -

event being planned in the Bromley area, mostly single deck buses as route 227 Bromley - Penge, may be some journeys to Crystal Palace, this is single deck because of the low bridge at Shortlands - in past years it's mostly been 1950s RF types.

may also be a limited double deck service - possibly as a short version of old route 94 Orpington - Bromley or something like that.

They don't always put much info out in advance.

Farcebook page here.

More detail for Sunday 15 December is now out (albeit only on a farcebook page) which is a bit shit as it won't let you see things if you don't login.

looks like 4 buses on route 227, every 30 minutes or better between bromley north station and penge 'crooked billet' and only a few journeys beyond penge to crystal palace

2 buses (one routemaster, one RT) on short version of old route 94 between grove park and petts wood station (today's routes 261 / 208) - every half hour or less

1 'Green Line' RF doing a few journeys on a short version of route 725, elmers end - chislehurst

the 227 timetable suggests TFL aren't letting them have any stand time at the bromley north end, so timekeeping is likely to be not great.
