News of the World website goes behind paywall

It's the best selling paper in the world isn't it? I imagine there'll be some people. Hopefully not enough to make the exercise worthwhile.

The Sun is currently the biggest selling newspaper in the UK, which is something of a turn of events cos the NotW was the biggest by sales for ages - certainly all the time I was a press buyer, it had a circ of over 4mn.

Re: the OP. Sun/NotW readers spend a lot of money on premium rate text/phone lines, so asking for £2 a month for the paper digitally isn't a huge step up. Even the £1 per Sunday is cheaper than buying the printed version.

Murdoch will keep at the paywall until it works.
