NEDS

Brilliant film, recognised a few faces and places in it. The bridge that becomes prominent is a 10 minute walk from wher I live so it was rather 'immediate'. The film is set in the schemes surrounding where I live and the gang names were/are all from where I live indeed the very estate I live in.
Even 'funnier' was that the fella who played the lead characters older brother was sat 3 seats along giving us all a slightly inebriated running commentary..... Didn't seem to jar with the film neither.... I was having fun checking out some of the clothes.

Got to ask: how does it compare to Small Faces?

The first half is full of lols (I never knew my mate was one of those 'loudest laugh in the cinema' types), school scenes especially.

It's excellent, I really enjoyed it. Was commenting to Fed last night that I wasn't expecting it to be funny  but there were a few real belly laughs.

Is that the Bushwhackers. So its set in the South Side then. I assumed it would have been up the East End. A bit from the trailer reminded me of my school days fighting with St Aloysious pupils, they wore green blazers with yellow trim. Hopefully going to watch it this weekend.

Nah, it's set in Cardonald/Pollok. The gang the main character is in is the Car D, ie Cardonald. They gangs they fight with are the Kross and Krew from Pollok. The Bushie is my local gang, or was. Also mentioned in the film are the Kinning park Star, Ibrox Tongs, Young Govan team.

I hope this gets a cinema release in Sydney..Would love to be able to watch it
on a big screen...Looks fantastic.

Saw this yesterday. Really liked it -- very funny in places. The acting was also great as didn't really seem like they were acting.

The only thing I didn't like was the last scene which felt a bit like it was trying to make some allegorical point or something. Definitely worth seeing though.

Saw this last night as well. Thought it was pretty good. Loved the scenes in the classroom, class 1b in particular. Ending was a bit meh, but the clothes made up for that.

The people behind me were shocked by the language. :D They were going on about it on the way out.

Got the impression that everyone around me thought the word 'Cunt' was the funniest thing they had ever heard. Serves me right for going to see it in the FIlmhouse I suppose.

Saw this last weekend.

Hated it - in fact I walked out about three quarters of the way through.

depressing, weak script (IMO) and despite living in Scotland, (and being married to a Scot) I couldn't understand some of the dialogue.

I realise I stand alone - I didn't like This is England either.

Just turned up on Netflix Instant (in the States).

It's got subtitles. It could be worse . . . the early Bill Forsyth films, That Sinking Feeling & Gregory's Girl, are both dubbed.

I liked it up until the ending, I thought the ending was fucking atrocious. The director should have just walked on screen and explained what he wanted to symbolise with the ending, rather than ramming a rather obvious metaphor down everyone's throats.

The scene where he had a knife taped to each hand. How did he do that then?

Stick the tape to a door handle then cut the tape off once you have the correct length then wind tape around your hand. Do same with other hand. Remember to put the knife in your hand before you wind the tape around it. Happy hunting.;)

Eeek! That would work!!

Just watched this, good I thought with a few duff bits - like the hug and scrap with Jesus :D

Watched this last night.

For some reason I thought one of the most heartbreaking bits was where he
gets back to the boiler-room where he's dossing only to find that someone's put a padlock on the gate.

though of course the bit where he
brains the poor sod with a gravestone, giving him (he discovers later) permanent brain damage
was the worst.

I saw it a while ago and was a bit disappointed in it, started well but lost the plot a bit as it went on that. Saying that if I knew Glasgow I'm sure I'd have enjoyed it more.

I watched this last night, remembering the positive reviews it received here (and in the wider media) - were we watching a different film? It was laughably bad, one of the worst films I've ever seen. Almost on a par with SW19 ffs.
