My book was published yesterday

Sorry.

It's just if you had, you'd be aware that one of the authors was previously deputy editor at the Big Issue, whom you suggested contacting.

You don't have to buy it to know that, tbf, just read the blurb.

Ah right. I hadn't read the blurb. Haven't read much so far but first impressions are good, it's pretty well written. Will continue reading when on tube/trains.

You bought your copy yet? ;)
D'you know, for some reason, the last thing on earth that I want to read ATM is a book about drugs and / or social policy :D No offence to the op, mind, my reasons are entirely unrelated to the interestingness or excellence of his book! In a month or three, maybe!

Well then they'll be reviewing it so my idea wasn't totally shit, was it? :D

ooooohhhh shiiiit. well its our first book so its not exactly the prettiest labour of love, but its got some good stuff in there, lots of interviews with drug dealers - which are well under-represented in British literature we thought :hmm:
Have you let all your interviewees know that the book is out yet? Often the subjects of a book will be those keenest to promote it.

Are you on twitter? If not, consider joining and plugging the book that way, preferably with a pithy, short hashtag - #narcomania appears to be unused.

As previously mentioned a mini-site or blog would be a good idea; in addition consider posting short audio or video clips, podcast-style (short excerpts from the text, panel-type discussions on the themes, that sort of thing). Doesn't have to be over-polished or produced. If you post interesting content - and cross-post links to other interested tweeters, bloggers, podcasters etc - there is more chance other people will over the book. Make it clear you are happy for others to repost stuff!

How's this for a quote?

For a sober, reasoned assessment of where this country stands with regard to the many and varied problems of drug abuse, read Narcomania, which has the courage and the integrity to talk to dealers, addicts, policemen, and others at the sharp end.

get that on your website, pronto...

Very meta - reviewed by Laura's housemate!

stuck it on the Facebook site. cheers.

Yes it was a great review for us. The spat in the comment section between Nick Lezard and Peter Hitchens is amusing. Hitchens has written a blog about it

looks interesting, I now have a copy on its way.

not sure howard marx is as out of touch with the scene as you mentioned earlier btw, nobody who's partying in the back room at back to basics can really be that out of touch IMO.

Is Back to Basics still going?
yes.

unfortunately I may be barred, though they've moved venue since my last visit when a couple of bouncers decided to use my head for a punch bag for reasons that I never quite sussed out (something about me deciding to turn a smoke machine off:hmm:).
