MP3 or Lossless - almost impossible to tell the difference, apparently

On a side note, I wish you could get virtually unbreakable ear bud headphones. I've been put off buying really good ones because invariably the wire gets caught or damaged coiled up in pockets.
I had some Sony ones once which had a sort of mesh covering over the wires. Those were great, they were really easy to untangle.

I had some with a flat ribbon like wire and right angle plug. Stayed relatively untangled The earbuds themselves weren't that comfortable. The sound wasn't bad but something went wrong with them.

I'm being careful with the current pair. When they inevitably break, I'll get a decent pair with case then. I'm not particularly heavy handed, perhaps I carry too much junk in my pockets.

Get some electrical heat shrink tape . Use that around the plug and bud connections which can't be split and twisted together when the wire breaks.

This moves the break to a place you can just cut, strip, twist existing wire and place some new covering over the wires

I've started doing that with my Koss KSC75s - though using small cable ties.
The trouble is though that the tinsel wire they use defies my soldering attempts - and I've been soldering since I was 11 years old - even using fire and extra flux.

But they only cost me £15 a pair and I probably average 12 months from a pair.

I don't really go for the earplug ones anyway though. Buy some decent cans and you won't have any snapping wire issues. I've got a pair of Audio Technica ATH M50s, although they're not hifi.
