mortgage query

I don't know about IoM but in mainland you normally exchange contracts one day and expect to complete (move in) a week or two later. Your solicitor should let you know late today that you have exchanged and when to expect completion.

Things are different here on the island. It's quite normal for exchange and completion to happen on the same day.

No, ring them.

With our first purchase, we did, and discovered completion had occurred an hour or so before, the solicitor just hadn't got around to phoning the estate agents.

Does anyone know what happens with our mortgage payments now? Is the bank meant to get in touch with us to arrange monthly payments? Or will they just automatically start taking money?! No one's mentioned anything about this yet - another thing we're just expected to know!

They should write to you and let you know when first one is due. It'll probably be a month today for first payment unless you've specified a specific payment date.

Didn't you complete & sign a direct debit mandate when the mortgage was arranged?

Otherwise I am sure they'll be in contact.

God knows. I've read and signed so many documents I've lost track of them all. Will have a look through everything over the weekend.

It's safe to say you already signed agreement for the mortgage to be removed from your account each month!

Well done on getting through this all while seeming to not ask the professionals any questions :D:D:D

Trying to get hold of any professionals to get answers has been pretty much impossible. No one ever responds to emails or phone calls. Don't know what I'd do without Urban75!

:)

at least you are in the position of being at one end of a chain, not trying to do the selling and buying thing at the same time.

i have managed to avoid that so far, have only owned 2 places, bought one while i was renting so had an overlap, and bought the current place from landlord after renting it for a while, so didn't actually have to move or anything.

not sure it's going to be possible next time round and really not keen...
