Misc steam railway, traction, station and rail-related news

I have "got" that reference [but not the footballer side of it]

he's called Ben Crompton - he's a defender for Tamworth (who were on the telly this afternoon in an FA Cup match against Tottenham) and has squad / shirt number 33.

He appears to have had squad number 44 at Sunderland - he's currently on loan from Sunderland to Tamworth.

It may all be a coincidence.

Oh why oh why didn't Simone say something? Old oak common is open but closed only admitting educational institutions 😡 we would love to go inside the site for a nose ( we have walked around it ).

I'll crosspost this. Big plans from Network Rail for Manchester Oxford Road. May need two years of trains running through without stopping.

In my opinion, this is a hell of a lot of chasing after what should have been done years ago, including building Platforms 15/16 at Piccadilly. Going into Manchester from the west is always beset by delays because there's not enough capacity, made worse by the cack-handed way they built the Ordsall Curve without thinking of the consequence.

Anyway, information here:

And consultation area here:

How are they increasing capacity by reducing it from five tracks to three, with less platform space for vehicles? I suppose I need to read the detail to understand that!
