While clashes are taking place outside the parliament building, politicians inside have held a session to vote on the declaration of martial law.
President Yoon Suk Yeol earlier declared martial law - prompting anger among opposition parties.
Parliament has now voted to block the declaration, with the speaker saying it is invalid.
Some 190 of the 300 members of parliament were present.

Apparently parliament has the right to block it under the constitution.

Wifes daughter lives over there (shes married to a south korean) - will see what their take on it is.
I was there two years ago for the wedding (just after the clubland crush disaster) - there was anger over the deaths but no real noticiable political strife - althouhg there is a deep rooted culture of authoritariansim (and a history of forceful protests from workers movements)
This sounds like the president trying pull a fast one cos he didnt get his way with the parliament - cant help thinking that trumps imminent arrival has maybe given a green light to this sort of cunitude around the world. (USA a key backer of south korea)

Now we see which way the army jumps. As i say, expect he sounded out the brass but presumably they're sworn to the state not him personally and if parliament's against it, rank and file likely won't go along.
