Mapp and Lucia.

I do get a frisson from watching bossy posh totty Anna Chancellor manipulating and ordering everyone around her.

Just watched last night's episode and sadly I have to say I feel a bit disappointed. I loved the original adaptations and feel the need to scour the net and buy them on DVD if available.

Just about to watch and wanted to say before I start that I saw a play with Anna Chancellor in it recently and I have to say - without doubt - she is the sexiest person I have ever seen :D

I've just binged on the second 2 and thought the last one in particular was hysteical. Although the Queen Elizabeth moment was also hilarious. And ooooh the outfits! Lucia's floaty silk blouse/trouser ensembles *faints*

(I didn't watch the 80's version and have not read the books so have nothing to compare it to)

The first episode started off rather slowly, but once it got going it was great fun. I was trying to think who Mapp's teeth/speech reminded me of, then I got it - Esther Rantzen!

The garden and the interiors are the actual garden and interiors of Lamb House where the exteriors were filmed. Apart from the garden room which was constructed specially.

Miranda Richardson was just brilliant. Her facial expressions throughout had me in knots laughing.....the scene where she's chasing what she thinks is the King's car was brilliant. . Lol...
I started to watch the old series again today and have to say I can't choose between them. Both are great.
I hope they film a few more of the books..especially the first three books which weren't filmed in the 80's.

Oh, and yeah, the clothes, furniture, buildings, scenery were fantastic!!

Miranda Richardson was just brilliant.

I absolutley loved her in the last one where she'd caught Lucia in her bathing costume in the garden and was almost exploding at the lunch afterwards - desperate to tell everyone what she knew :D

I think I might watch it again. It was such a delight and i was suffering from the effects of a rather long night when I watched it this morning...

Well have watched two episode - really enjoying it but don't remember Mapp being such a villain in the books. I think both women are insinuated as being as bad as each other.

I would love to see them make Lucia in London - one of my favourite books.

Will have to watch the original series.

It's prompted me to go back to the Mapp and Lucia book - started it yesterday and it's pretty true to the book, although Anna Chancellor's Lucia is rather more sympathetic (simpatico :D) than in the book. Still they are both delicious.

I loved, loved the first series, haven't watched it since. Didn't like the books though I expected to love them. they should be just the sort of thing I'd love. Wasn't at all sure when I watched this but by the end of the episode I'd warmed to it considerably. Perhaps because I don't remember much of the detail of the original so I felt like I was becoming reacquainted with old friends.

I didn't know this was a 'thing' and stumbled across the first two episodes on iplayer. Clearly I'm uninitiated but they were really hard work to watch! I fell asleep by the end of both

The first series had Nigel Hawthorne and he couldn't be surpassed! But Miranda Richardson is so exquisite too!

I have to admit that the new series didn't have that glorious wickedness of the first...

Would that there were a god of television who could telescope the two series according to my wishes.:(
