A friend of mine, who is Mapp and Lucia fan, had seen it and reckons it's rather good.
He thinks Anna Chancellor is better than Geraldine McEwan
He did really enjoy it although I think overall he thought the previous adaptation was better, however he really liked Anna Chancellor and Steve Pemberton, though he did prefer Nigel Hawthorne's interpretation.Really?..I do hope it's good.... so sick of Downton and a lot of dross on telly recently.

I agree, I'm disappointed too. A minor thing: the padre shouldn't have a Scottish accent. He should just have the affectation of using Scottish dialect words.
I didn't see the first series but love the books. So I wasn't entirely sure at first but it was brilliantly barbed. And Anna Chancellor/Miranda Richardson were fab
