Making money on social media

stuff_it

Too skool for cool
Asking for a friend.... No, really I am.

She has over 20k of followers on Twitter, and a bunch more on Reddit, largely from on-point left-wing political and current affairs rants. She's a single parent and could do with some extra income, but doesn't want to go against her principles or be blatantly commercial.

Any ideas how she can turn this into some money?

i've also seen people having a link to ko-fi but don't know how the practicalities work

having a blog as well as just posting on tweeter might give scope for longer articles and a chance for people to go back to older articles more easily

Kofi is like a virtual tip jar. Content creators ask their readers/viewers to donate. Usually they'll ask people to donate toughly the price of a cup of coffee.

The good thing about that, is that people who don't want to subscribe on an ongoing basis, can make a one-off payment.

Does she do anything other than post on twitter and reddit? E.g. write a substack

If all she's doing is posting on social media, the most I can see her being able to do is begging, i.e. asking for donations via ko-fi or similar.

If she's able to create content, like videos, journalism, or other kinds of writing, then the options are greater.

I'd tell her to start a substack and ask people to subscribe. If she's any good, she'll probably be able to make a bit of extra cash every month. If she's really good, she might be able to make a living off it

Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant.

If she has a specialist hobby/subject that she tweets about etc then there are definite opportunities, but earning potential is dependent on many many factors.

I've got a combined total of nearly 40k Twitter followers but I've no idea (or real interest, to be fair) in trying to monetise that reach.

However things like Patreon and Donorbox can absolutely provide some income but really work best with a physical site/YouTube channel etc linked to them.
