Maidstone vs Dulwich Hamlet, Weds November 12th 7.45pm

Do we really need four security staff permanently stationed in front of the Hamlet fans and staring at us? I don't mean to go on about it, but this is the kind of nonsense that really spoils the vibe.

Phil was an absolute beast in goal tonight. As much as Oshane Brown has played well in the last few games, I have no doubt that if he was playing, we would have lost. From what I could see, Forbes won the ball for the pen but the ref was much closer so difficult to say for sure. We were under the cosh for a lot of the game. We sung our fucking hearts out and baited their stewards in a very friendly manner. They deserved a lot more grief than they got. Apart from "steward number 8" they stared at us and tried to spoil our fun for the whole game. There were rumours of some homophobic comments from some of the Maidstone supporters but all of those I chatted to were very nice.

Definitely heard homophobic comments made in the first half. Disgusting stuff. Some of the Maidstone fans are fine, but some are total retards. Didn't notice their support at Sittingbourne a few years ago when the club was on its arse. Plastic, glory hunting tossbags.

Maidstone fans are certainly tackling the racism that they heard when we were up the other end. It is all over the twitter #000iswatching

The Maidstone fans I've chatted to at the games have always been splendid, friendly people - same applies to what I've seen from their supporters posting on various forums - but there's no denying that there is a really unpleasant minority of near-cavemen there.

Some are like the humourless, aggressive halfwits who I remember from my time following Cardiff around. One bloke actually did the 'staring out' routine at me, which was particularly tragic.

It's a real shame because there's a lot to like about Maidstone, but every time I've stood in their 'home' end there's never been a shortage of homophobic comments and testosterone-inflated buffoons keen to recreate the 'Football Terrace c. 1972 Experience'.

And their mob-handed stewards were positively ridiculous tonight. It's almost like they wanted to get a reaction.

Still a good game which Hamlet were lucky to get a point from. Maidstone have got a good team there,

Well done to our way supporters, by all account credit to the Club

Sorry to all those who had to suffer abuse players, officials and fans

We have always shown away supporters great respect (especially Maidstone) especially at mid week games for making the effort to turn up on a wet winters night

Pleased that on the Maidstone forum their fans are raising the issue and what they should do

racism is totally and utterly unacceptable and so is homophobia and sexism - I wish their "progressive" and loyal fans all the best with rooting it out - but they will have to take firm action

you cannot just whinge about these things, we need decisive action at all levels to stamp out racism

Yes, the Maidstone supporters I've actually chatted to over the years (and a few more last night while killing time in the 'Spoons next to the station before catching the 2248 train home) are among the most fair and knowlegeble football fans I've come across, but with the advent of their new ground and a winning team it does appear that a few people with a Football League mentality have hopped aboard the bandwagon. It's clear some of them can't handle away fans standing in "their" end and take it as some sort of challenge to themselves. One peabrain last night came and stood right next to the Rabble just before kick off. As soon as we began chanting he was screaming "SHUT UP" from a few feet away, to little effect. He was intermittently shouting things at us, but was more or less drowned out. (At one point I thought he might have been shouting "homos, homos", but couldn't be sure.) Then on several occasions he moved sideways to stand in front of us with his scarf raised above his head to block the view of Hamlet fans behind him. I mean, how utterly, pathetically juvenile.

Then as Editor says, we had the stewards apparently seeking to actively provoke a reaction. I've never seen anything like it. They were like coppers from the 1980's. Towards the end of the first half one tubby bearded steward aged about 30 came and stood at the front, leaning on a barrier and staring intently at us. I kept looking at where he was looking and couldn't see anyone doing anything wrong at all. Then he seemed to be pointing out someone and ordering them to come down to the front, but was ignored, so he summoned reinforcements and three were three of them staring at us for the rest of the half. Then in the second half the same stewards moved to the other end and along with a couple of colleagues did the same thing. Then more of them came to join in. It did eventually spoil the vibe, and I'm sure a number of Hamlet fans moved away because of it, because by the end of the game there seemed to be far fewer of us in that section of terrace just to the right of the goal looking out at the pitch. There were five of them just staring at a few dozen away fans who were doing nothing other than vocally supporting their team. If the entire crowd had been subjected to a similar stewarding ratio they'd have needed over 200 of them! If you stared at someone like that in the street, or in a pub, you'd expect even a reasonable person to snap and have a right go back. But on the way out of the ground the stewards by the players tunnel couldn't have been nicer, wishing us luck for the season and a safe journey home.

A shame we're talking about this, as once again we saw a titanic contest between Stones and Hamlet Normal regular supporters from both clubs clearly relish these meetings as they're a lot more memorable than the average league game.

This is why I have a lot of respect for the vast majority of Maidstone fans:
But the whole game was ruined by some of our support, & I loath to call the supporters. I had to go for a piss & while in there, had a stupid row with two blokes who were going on about "the ref is booking more of ours because they're all black", "can't tell their players apart, they all look the same".....,..The usual shitey comments. I couldn't not have a go back, I'm absolutey livid that we apparently support the same team, & then to hear it on the terracing as well was the most depressing thing I've ever heard at Maidstone. It almost made me just leave the ground & never set foot in it again. Apparently after looking on Twitter, it wasn't an isolated occurrence.

& can somebody who was singing that they hate Dulwich, actually explain why they do? Dulwich are a fantastic club, their support is brilliant & after speaking to their commercial director, I have nothing but respect for their whole set up.

After the brilliance of Sunday, it wasn't our players who let us down last night, it was us.

I hope they have the courage to turf out the wankers because it really is spoiling the vibe there, and it's not like they're hard to spot.

The club is doing fantastically well. They've got a good ground, huge crowds and a board willing to invest in the future, but unless they nip this growing problem in the bud, they may end up with bigger problems ahead.

As fans its important to recognise that these re a minority of Maidstone United fans (so called) and I know some of their fans reading this report will be pleased that we recognise this

But to be honest Maidstone United fans asked for racists to be removed after the game in March 2014 - was anyone actually barred ???

If MUFC are serious about Kick racism out of football - the club need to act

I fear that with Dulwich Hamlet having one of the few black managers and with many black players (and I know some of MUFCplayers) - racists seem to feel free to have a go -

Its not and has never been acceptable to hurl racist abuse - MUFC have extensive videoing and stewards - lets see what action is taken this time (if anything ????) we are right behind "Stones" fans demanding action - its the Club that needs to act

Good to see honest report "sweeping nothing under the carpet report" by MUFC fans trying to put an end to this unacceptable behaviour

Was there some racism in March? I recall some of them - not many - behaving like aggressive dickheads and trying to provoke a fight, but no racism. Bunch of gobshites anyway. Sad, as Maidstone have some proper sound fans.

I've had a bit of a rant: Dulwich Hamlet hold high flyers Maidstone to a draw in a game marred by awful stewarding and an unpleasant minority

Slight complaint here about the photos. They make me look bald.

See that female steward? Proper punched me in the back. Shame that they had to be so over the top, but as another person added, the ones we passed on the way out by the tunnel were great. In fact there was a similar situation with the stewarding when we had the cup final game down @ Maidstone the other season. Only one decent steward out of the lot, and I I swear that guy was by the tunnel.
