London lorry danger alert this weekend

edit: in reply to jerbab

for starters no cyclist no matter how selfish their riding is could be as dangerous or potentially lethal as a lorry.

Explain, plz.

You've misread the thread.

Nobody is blaming lorry drivers or saying they are "selfish and dangerous".

Similarly, nobody is saying that cyclists are blame free road users.

The OP was merely a notice telling cyclists to expect vastly increased numbers of lorries on certain routes in London. As lorries and cyclists being on the same roads has a long and fatal history, this was a public service kind of thing.

Nobody is blaming anybody (except for the depressingly predictable tool blaming cyclists.)

The facepalm comes from exasperation that these threads always end up with the same arguments, and this one started as a safety notice.

we're about to get into semantics

"Some cyclists are selfish and dangerous just as some lorry drivers are"

*leaves thread*

Most cyclists don't think lorry drivers are out to get them either, but ajdown doesn't think we should take extra care when there are loads of lorries around.

Well, you should always be taking care, you shouldn't need to take 'extra care' should you? ;):p

I haven't misread it, I just saw a pack mentality descend on said tool, that's all.

Christ on a bike, you people are picky & anal sometimes :D

Don't you fucking start :D, yep you should always take care, but I'd take extra care if shit loads of lorries were on the roads, or take another route!

I don't know any of this "pack", or even really bother check who posted the other comments; the idiot's post spoke for itself and drew all the fire itself.

I do take lots of care of my own cycling and for other road users especially pedestrians

I also appreciate the heads up

a lot of cyclists have been saddened and angered at the recent cyclist deaths from RTA with construction vehicles, I for one, have also been a bit scared and wary of them since

a young woman was killed right near where I live last month, its not a major or dangerous looking junction but it was involving a tipper truck and a fairly narrow road that is used by a lot of lorries coming from the olympic site

so extra lorries from huge construction sites do generate more danger for cyclists - the drivers are also probably under loads of pressure to get their job done and maybe don't take the time they need to look twice for vulnerable road users

limiting the hours that construction vehicles can use london streets would help a lot as these accidents are often occurring in the am morning rush

Cyclists wouldn't need to "take extra care" if they rode safely in the first place, not riding on the wrong side of the road, dodging in and out of traffic, going through red lights etc, and actually respecting other road users that cannot stop, or move, as quickly as they are able to.

well done, twat

this is clearly a thread to warn people to be extra careful rather than a thread for tubby and co to vent thier anti bicycle rage

Perhaps a minor row is the best way to make it stick in the memory?

Is ajdown perhaps some kind of sufi teacher?

II have more respect for myself and those I love/love me than to put myself at risk on a bicycle.

What?

If statement 1 is fair and reasonable, you're saying you'd cycle like a wanker.

If statement 2 is fair and reasonable AND you wouldn't cycle like a wanker, then you're misrepresenting the truth in statement 1!
