Lawson's ticket gets punched

I thought he was a member of John Major's grey cabinet but I just checked and he'd gone by then.
The papers'll be full of sychopancy tomorrow.

Climate change denier, overseer of the great sell-off and all-round arsewipe Nigel Lawson has shuffled off this mortal coil and joined Thatcher in whatever circle of hell she inhabits.

BBC Article
Couldn't find the Climate Change denial bit in that BBC obituary. Why did they leave that bit out?

A widely detested peddler of bogus economic theories that he used as cover to screw the poor, Lawson would endorse planet-destroying scientific falsehoods in his senility. He died in obscurity after people had mostly stopped listening to his incoherent ramblings.

He had nice hair.

Was that the BBC Obit?

It’s worth remembering as the tributes pour in what it is in Lawson’s career that we’ll be asked to admire: the introduction of monetarism, the control of inflation rather than economic growth as the key economic measure, privatisation of nationally owned public services, the financialisation of society with money worship saturating itself into every facet of life, the destruction of manufacturing and economic production and a historic collapse of the balance of payments.

Lawson - who will be remembered as a great supporter of entrepreneurship but was just a journalist and never created a single job himself - dying should be a moment to reflect on just how badly Britain fucked up. Dumping a national economy for the half baked theories of Hayek and Friedman was a disaster from which we still suffer.

I’m going to take a wild guess that the coverage won’t even mention it…

not to mention pissing away all the tax receipts from north sea oil and and gas on tax reductions rather than spending them on investment or developing a sovereign fund like the norwegians have

Good post; and all done with an urgency that suggested they never believed that their neoliberal project would roll on, uninterrupted, for the next 34 years.
