Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

T & P

|-o-| (-o-) |-o-|
Saw this on Saturday and thought it was pretty good. Highly entertaining and raising some good laughs at any rate.

Van Kilmer is great as a non-camp gay man. :D And Robert Downey Jr. was ace- the man can act when he wants.

Has anyone seen it?

Clicked on this thinking it was about Roald Dahl's book - but that's just Kiss Kiss ( I've got to wake up!!)

Not seen it, but might go this week.

it certainly isn't, it was never released in the cinema from what I recall, it was made for TV initailly several years ago, mind you it was probably the best of the films I worked on when you take into account titles such as 'on the nose' and 'most firtile man in Ireland'

the one I worked on was from 2000 with Martine McChutcheon, didn't think for one minute that there would be several films with this one stupid title, looks like the one just released is sort of the same story and the crap one I was involved with

mrs m: yeah, I'm thinking not as well!!

went to the press screening with Jodal and thought it was superb.. really enjoyed it.

sounds very different to me.. this one is a very stylish LA crime / comedy sort of film..

It's NOT a stupid title. It's a Pauline Kael quote...You do know who Pauline Kael is, I presume, as you're in the business.

You're definitely talking about a different film. Check out the IMDb link on post 3...

It was a stupid film that I worked on and as far as I am concerned it was a stupid title, just because I am in the business doesn't mean I have to know, let alone, respect film critics......

I'm even more confused than when I first posted
But the film sounds good to me - so I reckon I'll go see it! :)

Oooh! That told me!

You'd do well to read her stuff. Pauline Kael was not just any old film critic...everyone should know of her and read her words voraciously. As funny, and as good a writer as Dorothy Parker in my opinion.

Actually, I've always thought Downey Jnr had the potential to have been one of the best actors of his generation. He has the most amazing on screen charisma and energy, plus fantastic range. The good thing is, there's still time for him to rebuild his career and reputation.

I agree, he has great charisma and is a very good actor, nice to see him back again. I'm looking forward to this one, will see it this week sometime.

saw this yesterday with Pie Face and thought it was fucking great. even the bits that didn't quite work, still kinda worked in the overall scheme of it (the totally overcomplicated plot - obviously deliberate - just added to the absurdity). Downey Jr was great (veering between Woody Allen and Dustin Hoffman) and Kilmer surprisingly convincing.

and the script was just one great line after another - "whaddo i know? i'm just a bear - i suck the heads off fish" :)

Here is a taste of some of the great one liners in this film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373469/quotes

The director, Shane Black is a freakin genius. He is the best Action-Comedy writer ever, no question. I mean, just look at his resume: Lethal Weapon, Long Kiss Goodnight and the uber-action-comedy Last Boyscout.

What makes me really sad though is the fact that some wand waving prick is raking in the cash whilst this little gem of a film is making absolutely zero cash.

Maybe one reason why so many films are bad is because the people working on them don't really care about them.

As to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, it was entertaining enough while it lasted but two weeks later I can barely remember anything about it. Downey Jr. was great, but Kilmer felt more like a conceit than a character and the whole film seemed overly pleased with its own cleverness.

Got this on DVD and watched it with the missus last night.

I have to concur with the majority opinion on the thread...

Was hands-down one of the most flat-out enjoyable films I have watched in a long time.

Script was peppy and fun, the characters, if not strictly believable were thoroughly likeable and well written, the "narration" parts worked well despite running the risk of being too self concisiously knowing and kooky-cool and the story was solid.

Exactly the kind of thing that seems so rare these days: a good, solid, fun, intelligent and entertaining film: what yer DVD player was made for.

There are at least three films (one being a remake of the other). Steer well clear of the one who where the guy goes on a killing spree cos he fancies his neighbour, which is one of the worst films I have ever seen

I'm sure you'll find there are more than three films.

I personally own a few hundred on DVD and VHS, and there must be more than that.

What, like ever?

I am sure I have seen at least 8 films, but granted, one of those was a remake of one of the others....
