Kiev?

I passed through there for work twice in 2015, but only had a day or so each time, but it looked an amazing city to spend a bit of time in. Guess the Chernobyl tour would be a classic trip to do from there. Ukraine is incredible tbh, really beautiful and interesting. I had a great night in a Georgian restaurant there, but have no idea what it was, it's all a very cliched blur of meat, alcohol, mad Eastern Europeans, and hot waitresses.

A friend of mine went to Kiev last year and had a fantastic time. She did the Chernobyl tour as well which she said was amazing.
I don't have any details for you but she said it was great.

been a few times since maidan (and before but things were different then).change yur money at the airport on arrival - one of the few times i go for this option, but was told this by a Brit Diplomat. its a magnificent city you could spend all day just wandering about, jumping on and off the metro and exploring. food is shockingly good as you would expect from this bread basket of a country- as LynnDoyleCooper said, the georgian food and drink is great. museums and galleries are cheap and enthralling. the hotel ukraine is above maidan sq metro and is a proper stalinist monolith for £35 a night . flea markets at the end of the metro are worth a punt. lots of soviet modernism architecture to sniff around. arrive by train on a summer morning for best effect.

Been several times and really love Kyiv. I spent the late 90's and early 2000's travelling around eastern European countries and cities but most of the ones that are in the EU have become very comfortable and Westernized. Kyiv is still edgy and the Cyrillics make for great fun.

There are lots of touristy thing to do but be aware the city is on several hills so that can be a bit hard work but of course you have one of the most beautiful and cheapest metro systems in the world to use.

I tend to go in the depth of Winter because I'm a sucker for Eastern Europe in winter. Snow and temperatures way below -10.

I went to Lviv recently and that felt different, more Polish (yes I know why). Kyiv feels much more Russian.

Ukraine is closed until at least 28th September, that may well be extended...

In what way? I've found myself at a loose end with a trip to Scotland booked that's happening and determined to make something happen, but so on a tiny budget.

Tickets looked super cheap on Skyscanner. I've honestly not got on a plane for almodt 5 years.

The borders are closed to non-nationals. Pretty much most places outside of the EU are off-limits right now. Dominican Republic is OK, rest of Caribbean closed...

Perhaps UnderAnOpenSky wants to get in the Daily Mail: “Man On Dream Trip Gets TRAPPED At Ukrainian Airport Due to COVID Lockdown with British Officials REFUSING to Help Leaving Him STUCK there until CHRISTMAS.

Ah! See that's good info. :D

Budget doesn't certainly doesn't stretch to the Caribbean that's for sure. I was thinking cheap flight, youth hostal and street food or whatever the local equivalent was. Probably a silly idea really in the current situation really, but I've been a keyworker through the whole dam thing and pretty sure I've had it, so my idea of risk is slightly skewed.

There's probably worse ways to spend the rest of the year tbf...
