I agree, the vast majority of our country will mourn his passing and the contribution he made to it, especially in the civil rights movement and the years up to the GFA.
There will be many mourn his passing in Britain too.

Sadly he had dementia, I hope somewhere he still had the memories of what he achieved.

I think it must have been after the Greysteel massacre, or some similar event, when he appeared on RTE visibly exhausted and unshaven. I was watching this with my grandmother, who was heartbroken over his condition.
