Everything was going ok until the lander started its descent at which time they lost contact with it and now we have to presume it crashed into the Moon.

Modi was there today giving condolences and saying that there will be other opportunities.

Still, they must be gutted.

I was reading this article Why India's Mars mission is so cheap - and thrilling this morning that said Indian space programs costs about 10% of the US for comparable projects. Perhaps in this case they should have spent more on whatever the failing item was but I thought it interesting nonetheless.
