I'm guessing the northbound Blackwall Tunnel is closed, then?

fire in the tunnel! seems to be okay tho
Around lunchtime?? Fucking hell.
even with no van on fire its the biggest regular traffic jam in london, once something goes wrong its total car-nage
Aye, even as a non-driver, it's nigh impossible not to be aware of how much an issue it is that Blackwall is the eastern-most tunnel.

Still, honestly don't remember ever seeing it this bad. A long queue to the ferry, sure, but ain't nothing on four wheels moving round a lot of roads tonight.

I have some vague memory of some kind of tunnel project being scuppered in the past 5-10 years.

Then again, I could just be thinking of that garden bridge

silvertown opens next year and very close to blackwall

There's a current tfl consult about charging to for tunnels. email I got:

We are consulting on proposed user charge levels for the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels, supported by a green and fair package of discounts, exemptions and concessions for local residents.

The new Silvertown Tunnel will help reduce congestion and deliver faster, more reliable journeys in east London, including new public transport and cycle connections. When the tunnel opens in 2025, user charges will need to be introduced at both Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels, to help manage traffic and repay the construction costs.

To find out more and to share your views please go to tfl.gov.uk/TC-yourview where you can complete our online consultation questionnaire. Alternatively, you can respond to these proposals by sending an email to TC-yourview@tfl.gov.uk or by writing to FREEPOST TFL HAVE YOUR SAY (no postage stamp required).

If you have responded to the consultation already then we thank you for your feedback. If you would still like to respond, you have until 3 September 2024

yes i think we can expect a lot more road charging in general...France is the future, which has loads of it

Designed to take traffic away from the blackwall tunnel, ease congestion and pollution in the area....hmm don't think so somehow. Vehicles will soon overwhelm it necessitating yet another tunnel or crossing.

Apparently wife of a mate was stuck in it. Left work at 4pm, got home at 11pm  :(

Have to imagine there's all kinds of knock-on impacts for people, and/or those who were relying on them. Saw plenty of people, including some relatively young folk, waiting at empty bus stops, too.
