Hurricane Irene

I didn't realize we were having an argument. What I'm doing, is amusing myself until my wife is ready for us to go get the groceries.
You lostthe arguement re climate years ago, you just won't admit defeat. If you didn't realize we were arguing, then why bother to reply? Unless, of course, I touched a nerve.

I see that you didn't bother to try and counter my claims about your Libertarian outlook and it's implications...

Which one event in a (yet) another record year of extreme weather events.:D

I suppose there were some unusual events. This is the first summer in a long time where the max daily temperature didn't reach 30 celsius. People here are talking about the 'non summer'.

Where? Citation? I take it you aren't talking about the American Midwest, and certainly not global temperatures.

If you are going to start making claims, then you had better back them up.

You're the one claiming that a Cat 1 hurricane downgraded to a tropical storm is an 'extreme weather event'.

That caused flooding in New York and killed more people than Hurricane Andrew (as previously posted), caused the greatest power loss in Long Island (http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/205...ssau-suffolk-great-neck-long-beach-damage.htm)

Even Pielke Snr (I assume one of your heros) disagrees with you (http://www.livescience.com/15801-hurricane-irene-billion-dollar-disaster.html)

NASA would also disagree with you. (http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/08/hurricane-irene-rainfall-map/)

No shocks here then; JC3 is in total disconnect with the rest of the world...

Oh, sorry. Did I use links to back up my arguements. I'd forgotten that it is unusual for your debating style to actually back up assertions.

Tropical storms still cause lots of damage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Allison

Hurricanes shouldn't be thought of as a big tornado. Wind is only one of the dangers - the primary danger is flooding - the same as with tropical storms. It's a matter of how much rain gets dumped and if that rain can drain to the sea. The flooding can happen a couple days after the storm as gone.

I've never said that it didn't cause damage and take lives.
