Hotel booked, card expired, what happens?

Anyone know what would happen as below?

First time I've used Booking.com, have booked hotel in UK for later in the year. The card I used at the time has been replaced, (original was damaged.) Have received message from Booking saying I need to update etc. The hotel have a no cancelation policy it seems.

So what if I'm thinking I don't want to stay in that hotel, hotel A, now anyway. If I don't update my card, they can't charge it.

But if I use Booking again with a new card, for another hotel, at some point in the future, I guess hotel A can charge me then?

What do you reckon?

My credit card was stolen on holiday about a dozen years ago in Italy, I cancelled it (the thief didn't use it) and Barclaycard issued me a new one with a completely different number but since I had used the original a couple of times before it was pinched, both of those ended up on the new one's bill.
I suspect the hotel could chase the credit card for the money and they might very well just bung any charge onto the new one,
No cancellation charge is a bit much if it's more than a couple of days away since they can easily let the room to someone else, I'd pay a visit to the CAB if I were you.

Thanks. Yeah I booked in a bit of a hurry, shoulda read their no cancelation policy first. Does sound like bollocks. Anyway, have updated card. I'm still going but wondered if I could use this to switch to a hotel where most of the people I'm meeting up with are staying.

(Next time read the small print etc.)
