Holocaust (with Meryl Streep)

I saw it in the 70s in Germany when it first came out and it was a huge deal then. It basically kicked off the process when Germany really started to confront and deal with the Holocaust in a public and collective way. I suppose for a US mini-series it was good at the time, but it really was a little bit like The Waltons go to Auschwitz which didn't do the real thing justice.

Well, it has now concluded, the change from Nazi controlled Germany to Allied control was not handled very well, I think there was some important bits on the cutting room floor. I found it quite compelling to find out what happenned to all of the players. Obviously I already knew about the oppression, the camps and the inhumane brutality of Nazi Germany but this put a more human face on it than I had previously seen.

You might also like Conspiracy, which focussed on the meetings where the Final Solution was discussed.

I remember watching this when it was first shown and it making a deep impression on me at the time, having at that point little knowledge of the holocaust. It was one of the things that made me study the Nuremberg War Trials as my History 'O' level individual project.

Sorry I missed it as I would have liked to have seen it again 30 odd years on.

I think the True Movie channels just keep repeating stuff over and over. I'd also be curious to see this again, to see how it plays now. I do remember thinking that the concentration camp inmates in the TV series looked incredibly well fed at the time.
