HMRC starter checklist & UC/furlough

Asking for a friend: if someone's furloughed, and receiving UC, then when starting a new job, should they put " This is my first job since 6 April and since the 6 April I’ve not received payments from any of the following:• Jobseeker’s Allowance• Employment and Support Allowance• Incapacity Benefit" or "Since 6 April I have had another job but I do not have a P45. And/or since the 6 April I have received payments from any of the following:• Jobseeker’s Allowance• Employment and Support Allowance• Incapacity Benefit" or " Choose this statement if:• you have another job"
Feels like quite a simple question, but between not knowing if a furloughed job counts and not knowing if UC counts I'm fully not sure what to advise?

Update: my mate ticked C. Not sure if that's the right answer, but it is an answer I suppose?

I would have thought that if UC was one of the benefits they were interested in, it would have been included in that list.

That's what would make sense, I just wasn't sure if HMRC were actually doing what makes sense or if they were counting UC as JSA or something like that. Tbh I'd been under the impression that you couldn't get those other ones anymore and that everything was meant to be UC now, so not an expert here.

Are they remaining in their furloughed job or is this job in place of the furloughed job?

I think sort of both? As in still getting furlough from it and hoping to go back once things re-open?

Right, this is a bit more fiddly. If still getting furlough then this is a Box C situation.

Depending on what they are earning from both the furloughed job and the new job combined it may be worth calling HMRC to get their tax coding split between both employments.

They should wait until their first pay day from new job before calling HMRC.

That makes sense. And is also kind of reassuring given that they'd ticked Box C anyway, thanks!

If they’ve had payments from UC I think B because I reckon the form hasn’t been updated since tge advent of UC.
But I don’t think it’ll make a difference since there’s no option for the actual situation.

At this point in the tax year B (up until May 24th) shouldn’t be ticked.

Universal credit isn’t taxable income:

Yes I was in this situation and C was the right box to tick. the furlough job counts as the first job and the new job as a second job, initially at least (so you get taxed 20% on the second job)... they could swap the status so that the new job is classed as the first job (and so gets the £12750 tax free allowance this year), not sure how worthwhile it is to do that if they will definitely earn more than the 12750 this year though.
