Help with the name of an English historian

A friend has just finished reading a book "Cruel Continent" written by an English historian "Kit Lou". He's read the Russian translation, so Kit Lou is just the transcription of the author's name. The friend would like to find out more about the author but without success. Any help would be really appreciated!
