Haiti

The “masses” haven’t got a hope the various gangs have links to the MRE’s.
Morally Repugnant Elite. A term coined in the last but one US intervention. Of the political/business elite , They fund and supply the Guns and get gang members out of jail. Ex police run one of the gangs.
Police earn less than $300 a month and live in gang country
Haiti’s basically America’s Northern Ireland a really bad idea that’s now a permanent problem that nobody really wants to solve.
A military intervention could smash the gangs but the “elite” don’t belive in the rule of law. ( Tory’s don’t belive they could get away with arming thugs in the red wall🙄)

It's amusing how the MSM refers to "gang members" and "criminals" taking over the city, as if they were any more thuggish or corrupt than the US-sponsored government. The biggest gang down there is the CIA. When I was in Port-au-Prince in 1996, I encountered a group of extremely large, short-haired, slightly paranoid Americans who very cagily claimed to be "the President's bodyguard." The President was kidnapped shortly afterwards.

Long indepth podcast interview with a Haitian anarchist here:
The podcast is two interviews in one, dunno why they do it like that, but anyway the first half is an interview with Aaron Bushnell's friends, very worth listening to in its own right, but if you just want to skip to the Haiti bit it starts at about 52 minutes in.

Still an incredibly volatile and dangerous place. Decent bit of reporting here:

And this on the mass hunger crisis unfolding as a result

The president has gone:

What I would like to know is all these armed gangs which seem to be one of if not the primary problem in Haiti; they must be being financed somehow and as the country is very poor on the whole it seems unlikely to be drugs. Does anyone know if there are external financial backers?

E2a: this article goes some way to answering my question:
