Still lots of options for the winner of the Golden Boot. The current main candidates are:

David Villa 5 goals 1 assist

Wesley Sneijder 5 goals 1 assist

Thomas Mueller 4 goals 3 assists

Diego Forlan 4 goals 1 assist

Miroslav Klose 4 goals 0 assists

Luis Suarez 3 goals 1 assist

I expect there to be more goals in the third place play off than the final so wouldn't be surprised if one of the players in that game wins it.

The previous poll results were:

Heskey 20% - 0 goals
Villa 17% - 5 goals
Messi 17% - 0 goals
Luis Fabiano 13% - 3 goals
Rooney 10% - 0 goals
Other – 23%

don't think think/4th place play off should count, while i will be watching it, its pretty much a friendly.

Apparently, Mueller only had 5 shots on target during the tournament, all resulting in goals.

Villa's 5 goals have come from 16 shots on target, Sneijder's from 10 and Forlan's from 15.

my mate's going to be gutted about this new rule of including assists. he was going to win £300 with villa.

also had a tenner on holland to win

I don't think it's that new. I believe it was a deciding factor at the 2006 World Cup. The deciding factor that I wasn't aware of was number of minutes played if they were tied on assists.

Villa's substitution gave him second place as he played 17 minutes less than Sneijder. :hmm:

But I think your mates bet will have been on top goalscorer, not golden boot (am in same boat with a different player). Random FIFA gibberish does not change the fact the bets were for goals, not some made-up bollocks

Surely bookies are entirely honorable institutions?

It would have to have been an each-way bet I think in the event of a tie.

Quarter odds 1, 2, 3, 4.

All apart from Villa (9/1) were at least 50/1 pre-tournament.

I guess you are all right (and yes I had Forlan at 50/1) but it seems weird they don't pay out. They were all equal top (forget FIFA's gibberish to separate them) so by definition none of them were second best. I bet on him to be top goalscorer (the words their own slip uses) and no one scored more than him

It was still a good for a laugh bet though ;)
