Had the pleasure of meeting her at Hampstead Heath station when the North London Line was re-opened after a minor 6 month delay in the bad days of Railtrack. She was the local MP then and absolutely charming - so I let her flag the first train off with the traditional green flag.

Was advising some Labour MPs on the Standing Committee of a Bill many years ago and she was on the Committee and I found myself sitting next to her. Very charming. Maintained a good level of interest despite the Bill being boring as hell. Could never really understand why one of the outstanding actors of her generation wanted to spend years toiling away as lobby fodder for the Parliamentary Labour Party (so little return!)

RIP Glenda.

The local youth theatre in Birkenhead was named after her (Wirral girl). She bought a pair of jeans from my mum's shop (Wrangler and mum said she was completely normal).

Saw her last night in Sunday Bloody Sunday - 1971, I think. Bisexual love triangle among the Observer reading classes of Hampstead. She and Peter Finch very good as two points of the triangle, Murray Head plays the obnoxious twat who uses both of them.

A relic of the days when academics could afford huge fuck-off houses, and sire vast broods of ill-mannered and badly-behaved children.

But Glenda J. really was as good as everyone says she was in this one. A quite visually inventive film as well.

It's on YouTube, if anyone's interested.

Oh no. I missed this. RIP.
When I worked as a political TV journalist she stood out as one of the good ones. No nonsense (sadly 95% of politicians were 95% nonsense and probably stil are).
