Gender inequality online course (free)

I know that there are some on these boards who, like me, need and want a better understanding of these issues. Wandering around the internet as one does I found this course. I will sign up for it, I hope it will give me a better insight into gender issues.

I am equally aware that there are a lot of posters here who are far more au fait with the topic than I, to these I ask that you encourage those like me who are trying, even though we often fail, to understand better.

laudable sentiments - hope the course achieves the aims.
Over the last few years gender issues have been of increasing interest to me. I have a transgender sibling who has made me more aware of these issues too. But one problem I have is the way that many sneer at people like me and thus turn us off trying to be better at understanding. It happens here too, unfortunately.

People who, off their own bat, decide to look into the subject further with an open mind are definitely to be encouraged but they are rarely the problem. If you enjoy it and spread the word that would be great. Men have more sway over other men in this area.

If you enjoy it I'd be tempted to do it myself, to stop me getting angry when sexism at work rears its head and know how to challenge it effectively because it does feel a bit like pissing in the wind sometimes.

I often read the feminism threads here, I’m often put off by the sneers and aggressive put downs that are sometimes meted out to people, like me, who don’t always say/do the right thing. It is why I so often stay away from these threads. Consequently I’m not improving my understanding of the topic because I deliberately ignore so much that is posted.

A "few" years ago I had some so-called diversity training (everybody at a quite large firm - newly minted, after mergers - was required to attend). As someone who tends to be without much in the way of pre-existing prejudices, I found the way the information was presented to be crass and often insensitive. However, although several of my fellow attendees really needed the course I don't think it made any inroads into the walls around their judgemental opinions and they regarded it just as a way to get paid for hours not actually working. I was disappointed by the lost opportunity.
