Funeral today of man hanged in 1821

Just heard this amazing story on Radio 5

The funeral is taking place today (not sure where). What it doesn't say in the article is that the victim actually died as a result of an operation to drill a hole in her head, which didn't have great rates of success at the time.

A side-note on West Country hangings: Thomas Hardy, who appears obsessed with hangings in his books, was given a telescope when he was little. He used to watch men being hanged in the yard of Dorchester Gaol from his bedroom.

I can definitely believe that, I only ever read two of his stories but one had a hanging and the other had a man on the run from the noose (and bumping into the hangman at a party iirc)
