Fountain pen - recommendations

I like the nib, nice and minimal... Not a massive fan of bodies like that, but it has got a pleasing touch of Deco to it... Not sure about the other one though, plastic bodies don't really do it for me. Also it is apparently made out of cellulose, which is a worrying material.

I love cellulose. What do you dislike about it?

Gives "burning a hole in your pocket" a new meaning. :D

The MB arrived today. I like it much more than I thought I would. And it has a really nice, very soft nib.

I also got an Italix 'Parson's Essential', which is a very good pen for the price - about £40. Good looking (mirror-like finish with pretty gold details), weighty (it's brass), with a very smooth stub nib.

Think I might have a bit of a pen-buying spree tomorrow (impending 3 hour law exam). Anyone tried a Lamy accent? Want something with a softish grip that I can change the nib on easily... Although that would probably mean using Lamy inks; even if I can take a bottle in I'm not refilling mid-exam.

Also Cult pens have their own mini pen developed with Kaweco, looks interesting.

You can use the standard Lamy convertor with the Accent. I've not used one but they seem to use the standard replaceable Lamy nibs.

You can't stop there (!)

What kind? Soft F / EF I'm guessing - but Mottishawed?

I don't think I've use another pen since this one arrived.....

Do you use a converter or cartridges with your Namiki Falcon? I've got through about five cartridges, now, but it's always the same - just as I get to the end of one, there's a big splurge from the nib. The only bad thing about this pen.

Oh, while browsing... The Graf von Faber Castell range is perhaps somewhat overpriced at the best of times but the perfect pencil takes the piss.

£200. Granted it involves platinum, but even 'refills' (it's a fucking pencil) cost £40. For five to be fair, but still! Doesn't even give hardness option.

Bonkers!

That is a beautiful writing instrument right there. The nib looks glorious. Dare I ask how much?

You're shitting me? Have you got a link please?

Can't link from my phone, but if you Google 'Italix Parson's Essential' it should return a hit for the seller: Mr Pen.

I've just spent too much money on pens and now I see the Paron's Essential has a fine Italic nib option.

Converter.

Tbf, I'm not sure I've let it run dry yet, so wouldn't be able to comment!

I've been looking at Conway Stewarts... the Churchill one specifically. I know it's the length of a submarine. I know it will be too large for my liking. But I can't help but love everything about it (dodgy historical facts concerning Churchill aside).

I've got a beautiful vintage one. Stolen by my grandmother when she worked for the Lord of the Manor.

I've been using fountain pens less and less recently, due to the foolish move of starting a Moleskine as my journal. The only ink that it will take is Noodlers Black (specially designed to write on crap paper) and even then it has to be in fine nibs, and even then it still looks quite bad.

I'm therefore torn between "must use up the whole journal" and "aaaaaaaaaaaa can't take it any more". Moleskines have a lot of pages too. I think I'm going to go back to my Traveler's Journal and that nice Midori paper though, I've had enough.

On the plus side I've improved my knowledge of ballpoints no end.

That's a nice excuse to buy more pens. As far as ballpoints go, I carry a Fisher Space Pen in my pocket, and I like the Caran d'Ache fluorescent ones - they write beautifully, and are very hard to lose. Also, after buying the MB Noblesse gold-finish fountian pen, I liked it so much, I bought the matching ballpoint for the Mrs. She loves it, too.

The Space Pens are nice but seem to be carefully designed to slip out of pockets - I think I've lost four bullet pens by now. My pocket carry at the moment is a Tombow Airpress, which gets the same or better performance as a space pen simply by pressurising the refill every time you click it. It's also got a nice rubberised grip, the pen costs £6 odd and the refills cost pennies.

As a full sized normal ballpoint the best one I know of is the Uni Jetstream, which won in a survey of pen bloggers recently. It has all the best things from gel pens and the best things from ballpoints and it's three quid in Rymans. The Schneider Slider Memo biros are also really nice writers, comfy to hold and come in lots of colours.

Classiest one is the OHTO Promecha which makes me feel like a Swiss architect every time I take it out. Also very fine point if you like that sort of thing. http://www.cultpens.com/acatalog/OHTO-Promecha-Ballpoint-Pen-NBP-507R.html

Oh, and Lamy do a really nice retractable mini ballpoint, the Pico, but it has the same falling-out-of-pocket issues as the bullet pen. It does however extend to a usable size when you click it, as well as the nib coming out, it's quite cunning and well designed like that. Hmm. I wouldn't mind another one actually.

Ahhhh! Why do you tell me these things. Now I've got to buy some more pens!
