Fading jeans hem.

So I've had 2 x pairs of new Jean's taken up in the Levi shop and now need to age the hem a bit. Is it a case of using sandpaper/ pumice stone on the hem? Is there a chemical alternative that's easy to use ?
All advice gratefully received.

Have they already been factory distressed elsewhere or are they still dark?

Yeah eventually, but want to speed the process up a bit.

I wouldn't bother trying to distress them at this point then. A hot wash might make the hem a bit more 3d perhaps.

Why not just wear them and walk around a bit faster?
