Evidence that needs supplied with a HB claim form

Kuso

drinking like george best, gettin less women
so following on from this thread: http://www.urban75.net/forums/threads/jsa-for-part-time-students-and-hb.314850/

I've got my JSA sorted and have just filled in my HB form, which I've a few questions about. At the back there's a checklist of evidence to be provided:

Evidence of identity - no problem, passport

Evidence of address - I'm assuming a utility bill is fine?

Evidence of NI number - can't find my card anywhere. Is the pink book you get from the dole that has it written on it ok? Or would I be best to hoke out an old P45/60 (whichever it is that you get at the end of the financial year)?

Evidence of savings/ earnings/ other income - don't have any so no evidence needed I'm assuming?

Evidence of benefits - I take it your wee pink book you get in a laminate pouch from the dole is fine here?

Evidence of private rent & tenancy - cannot find my tenancy agreement anywhere! Is this needed if your landlord is supplying the Certificate of Occupation?

Also, are ALL HB claims paid direct to the landlord now or do some people still get it paid to them and then pay the landlord?

I had to provide my tenancy agreement and they wouldn't progress without it. Not sure what a Certificate of Occupation is but it doesn't sound like it would be enough IMO. They want to see that you are liable for the rent. And by how much. And who else lives there. Etc.

Most people get paid directly and then pay the landlord themselves. This is the default option.

Crap :( Anyone got a link to a really simple/ standard tenancy agreement that I could print off and use?

The certificate of occupation is the part of the form that the landlord fills in, it asks details about the property, when the tenancy began, is the tenant in arrears, stuff like that. But I don't see anything about who else is living the property etc, just a question "Is this a joint tenancy?"

It's been a while since I did it so I might be wrong, but they would need to know about other occupants for the bedroom tax, for instance, wouldn't they?

you're in NI, aren't you Kuso?
not sure whether a standard/template tenancy agreeement''s different over there ..might be worth giving them (the benefits people) a ring and asking whether they'd accept a letter from your landlord?

I am, yes. Well remembered, probably should have said. But anyway, I'm a div- there's accompanying notes on how to fill in the form that I hadn't got out of the envelope  It basically answers all my questions that I posted...

I'll need something official with my NI number on it, old payslip or something- fine, just need to do some hoking around. And the certificate of occupation is grand for evidence of tenancy. They only need a tenancy agreement, plus proof that you've been paying rent, IF the landlord won't supply the certificate of occupation.

All that's included in the form itself- how many bedrooms, how many occupants, are you related etc and then the certificate of occupation asks the landlord how many bedrooms etc too.

Like Tufty pointed out, I'm in NI, so the forms are maybe a bit different?

They'll want to see your most recent bank statement.

I'd take one anyway just to be on the safe side. It's pretty much standard in England and Scotland as well from what weepiper's said.

Maybe it does vary by area as to how many months worth, but you do have to put some copies of statements in to show your income / savings. I only had to include most recent ones. I live in a HA flat. All the other stuff of course, tenancy agreement, ID etc.

Yes - the certificate of occupancy thing is, as far as I know, a N Ireland thing

They'll want to see the last three months' worth of bank statements.

Probable.

Whether they will believe you if you say you don't have a bank account, I wouldn't like to say.

Absolutely no mention of that anywhere on the forms. Never heard of anyone here having to do that, either. Must not be the case in NI

Depends - HB is means tested, therefore savings are relevant (councils also like to have a discreet look to make sure there isn't wages being paid in for a job someone's forgot to declare)

Although if you're already on income support / income related JSA / ESA, then they generally don't need to bother re-doing the means test that the DWP have already done.

Last time I claimed we printed a short term tenancy agreement off the internet and also had apaper rent book with the rent and dates filled in and signed by the landlord (can get cheap in Smiths).
