ESA paranoia

Hi panpete,

Why are you concerned about being moved from contribution based to income related ESA?
Because the CAB brought it to my attention that I may be eligible for mortgage relief but I feared that applying for it may trigger them to send an ESA50 out

OK... Again, if it helps reassurance wise, I've been transfered from contributions based to income based in the past without it triggering a new questionnaire/atos assessment.

One bit is pretty unlikely to communicate with another bit IME, they're not that organised which is in itself pretty shocking.

Were you in the support group or wrag?

Hi that's what I thought but apparently the mortgage bit is on all of the screens, see post on page 1 from withnail

I very much doubt it. But why are you concerned about being switched from contribution based to income related in particular?

First time i was in the WRAG.

this time I'm not sure whether they changed it before or after I was initially assessed and placed in the support group (they kept changing their minds as to whether I was on income or contributions based until at least February, just before i was atos assessed for this claim; everything since then has confirmed I'm on income based)

IME when you get transferred over from contribution to income related ESA it just happens automatically - It won't trigger an ESA 50 being sent out - You'll only get one of them sent out when you get to the date that your last medical said you were due for a review IYSWIM. Say just for example the outcome of your last medical was "Panpete is on the sick til 2/3/2018", whether or not you get migrated from contribution to income, you'll not get an ESA 50 til march 2018.

Hate to nit-pick and/or disagree with the wise old Frances, ;) but isn't it standard practice to get your ESA50 a couple of months in advance of the date of previous medical? That's how it's always been for me. For example, my assessment from IB to ESA support group was end March 2013 yet I got my last ESA50 in Jan 2014.

You're right mate :oops::facepalm:

I get an ill health pension of £500 a month.
ESA contributions based allows me most of my esa with only a small amount taken off due to the pension.
With income based ESA, they offset the whole amount and I would end up with either none or very little.

As you are in the support group, you should be on contributions based esa

Hi

I was not initially asking about contributions/income based esa.
My current award ends in june 15.
The CAB thought I may be eligible for mortgage interest releif assistance and asked me if I wanted her to look into it.
I said yes, but I was worried that by applying for mortgage relief, this may somehow trigger the DWP to send me out an ESA50 early.
I did think the question was paranoid soon after asking, but on page 1, withnail says it's possible, but not as possible for support group claimatns,

Over at the benefitsandwork forum, some claimants are not receiving an ESA50 form at the expected time.
Instead of staying quiet like I would, B&W are advising them to contact Atos to ask.
To me, this is inviting the horrible process of the WCA, whereas if they had waited, they may have had a bit of extra time on ESA, due to the backlog.
Benefitsandwork online advice says best to contact Atos than to risk your claim being stopped, because you never received your ESA due to it being lost in the post from DWP to claimant.

You could ask at the CAB if you're still feeling worried
The CAB lady didn't seem to think that applying for assistance with my mortgage would generate an early reassessment.
The lady at the CAB rang me yesterday, after I'd gone and said that she was looking to see if I would be eligible for help with my mortgage, she said if I was, she would drop me a line.
I didn't get any post today, so will wait for a letter, if none comes I will assume I am not eligible.
If I am eligible, I'm hoping she hasn't already applied on my behalf, until I am more sure that I won't be flagged up for reassessment.
The whole process takes ages, and I go downhill at times like that due to the stresss.

That sounds like the reassurance you're after (the bolded bit) She can't have applied on your behalf because you'd have to sign paperwork, can you ring her to ask? I imagine waiting for a letter is going to stress you out.

I was put in support group and have always been on earnings related

If they ever try to make out they sent an ESA50 but it must have got lost in the post, ask them where the reminder letter was. The chances of both getting lost in the post are pretty slim

Hi
The lady only works on Mondays. If she found out I was eligible and posted me a letter, it will probably come tomorrow.
Thanks for letting me know she cant apply on my behalf as I have to sign paperwork, that reassures me somewhat also.
I think that if I don't get a letter on Thursday, it will probably be cos I am not eligible. I think that only income based or means tested ESA attracts mortgage assistance. I don't mind though, I am grateful for the esa and support component I get, and will be even more grateful if I can get all my council tax paid as mentioned above.

By earnings related do you mean contribution based?
If not, you should be on cont based for support group.

No, I mean earnings related. There are 2 types. Contribution based, and Earnings related.

I believe you get put on the latter if you haven't paid enough NI contributions - although I always believed while on Incapacity Benefit Income Support etc they paid your contributions for you?

I'm definitely on income based :hmm:.

People in the support group who get Income-related ESA will also receive the Enhanced Disability premium – an extra £15.15
^^ from Rethink's ESA page. Almost got into a right panic that there was more dwp fuckuppery with my claim

Benefits and Work are right. Not to put too fine a point on it, how do we (claimants) know that this (no forms being received) isn't yet another tactic by DWP to cut the number of claimants, by allowing their claims to run out?
