Duvet experts. How do I stop getting spiked by goose feathers?

I just bought a goose feather duvet which I'd hoped would be nice and comfortable but I'm actually getting spiked by rogue feathers all over the place. Is there a solution for this other than binning the whole thing and going back to synthetic materials? It feels like it's stuffed with straw.

Wash it, use conditioner to soften. Also could put a cover underneath your main one.

I take it you're using a duvet cover? In which case, maybe getting one in a heavier material might be enough. IME, you usually just get a tiny bit of the quill poking out, and the thicker cover should be enough to stop it stabbing you.

Yeah perhaps I need one with a higher thread count. I’ve no idea what this one is tbh but I’ve been pulling feathers out left right and centre and it’s really starting to piss me off now.

If you keep doing that you'll end up with an empty one. Thread count seems to be most likely explanation - I don't have this problem with the feather and down one I've got, but have done so in the past with others. But the quilt cover should stop you getting stabbed.

Can anyone tell me what the difference in feel would be like between 300-600 thread count covers?

They all seem similarly priced. So what are the pros and cons of higher vs lower?

there are no pros for lower thread count in cotton beddings unless you want to use the fabric as a sieve or something.

As far as I am aware the thread count relates to threads per square inch so 600 is going to be a close weave and more expensive than say 100 tc. The higher the thread count the smoother the cloth and the less likely to let goose feathers through.
The most expensive thread counts are over 1000.

Eta get the higher number if cost is same for 300 as 600

I was thinking of something like this -

It says 600 thread but doesn’t seem much different in price to other 400 thread ones so just wondered if there was any reason not to go 600 presuming it would be less likely to let the goose feather quills poke through. i.e. maybe the trade off is it’s less comfortable?
