Double decker trains

When I saw the thread title, I was expecting this:

:D
Dartford via Bexleyheath headcode 70 ..nice ...London is not London I think without EPB stock and "farting" train horns.....

It might be Amtrak I'm thinking of, but don't some of those American double-deckers have a lovely panoramic glass roof on the restaurant car? Anyone who's seen Under Siege 2 might know what I'm talking about.

ETA: It actually features in the film poster, right behind Mr Seagal

These things look horrible, like some kind of prison. However I just found some internal pics and a video and they are much nicer inside than I expected and quite an ingenious design for the times. Perhaps not much of an improvement in capacity over a regular train - a reduction today if anything taking into account lack of standing space!.

they have similar Paris Metro trains iirc

Just saw this on facebook. Love these old very British newsreels with the twee music

One of the comments suggested there were just two of these, confined to the Charing Cross to Dartford commuter line where there were no bridges crossing over the railway.

Apparently, they were withdrawn from service in 1971 as they were unpopular due to the cramped seating arrangements as well as the longer dwell time at stations when passengers made their way on and off the train"

Had them in Sydney long as I can remember.

Notice the bottom deck's floor's below platform level, helps keep trains lower for th etunnels.

though the older trains I used weren't quite as pretty as that, same principle. Plus reverserable seat backs means you can face whatever way to like :)

What with the failure to wire up the lines properly this is surely way too complicated.
