Difference between Year One and Year Two in a Degree

Hi all.

I'm currently just at the beginning of Year 2 of my BA Honours degree. Well, year 3 since I'm OU and was part time before but would be Year 2 if I was at a brick uni. I'm doing two 60 credit modules this year, Higher Intermediate German and British and Irish History 1799-1914.

Just had my first assignment back and it's from the History module. I scored lower than I was hoping for, with 65.

I guess my question is this. Is there a massive ramp up in the harshness of the marking system and intensity of work required now? It's that I'm not game, I just feel kinda.....gutted at myself for not doing better. I used quotes too much and waffled a bit, plus didn't reference the module material enough. Stuff to work on for sure.

Different course obviously but I found year 2 the hardest but I was warned by lecturers so was prepared for it but it was still a bit of a shock after mostly breezing through year 1.
There was an expectation of fewer quotes, much more detailed analysis.

I don't mind a challenge, I just had high hopes of doing well and maybe even smashing a Masters after this. It's on me to raise my game .

Yes, the next year is more difficult. But what’s the pass mark? I am assuming you got a good pass. Also, if this is the first assignment there’s room for you to get what you want in the next. And at least you know what you need to do to get what you want.

40 is the pass mark. But like you said, room for improvement. Doesn't stop me being fed up like.
