Decent (recent-ish) War Films

Spymaster

Plastic Paddy
There are loads of war film threads here but all quite old and there's been a glut of them made in the last 4 or 5 years, particularly Russian WW2 CGI-fests and quite a bit of American Desert Storm/Iraq war stuff.

What's worth watching?

Attackers - A Russian series about WW2 fighter pilots is bad but in a good way. Lots of (CGI) action but some decent storylines and acting and there's loads of it on Amazon Prime Video.

Code Name Geronimo - Not a bad telling of the hunt for Bin Laden. Netflix.

Prisoners of Stalin - Russian labour camp escape adventure.

Army of Crime - French WW2 resistance.

Land of Mine - Danish WW2. Brilliant. Has it's own thread here.

Westerplatte Resists - 1960s Polish WW2 film about the German Invasion of Poland. New out on Netflix.

Lots of Korean ones.

Myeong-ryang (2014) - IMDb
Ansisung (2018) - IMDb
Amsal (2015) - IMDb
Mil-jeong (2016) - IMDb

Bankier van het Verzet (2018) - IMDb Heist fillum about Dutch resistance funding.
Der Hauptmann (2017) - IMDb Based on the case of Willi Herold. Loses its way at the end unfortunately.
Hurricane (2018) - IMDb (Trigger warning for accent from a game of thrones ham)
I thought Hurricane was very good. I wasn't expecting much because it seemed quite low budget but was pleasantly surprised.

The only decent ones I can think of from the last decade are The Hurt Locker, American Sniper, Hacksaw Ridge and Fury.

1. 40 years old.
2. 40 years old.
3. 33 years old.

I'm not sure I'd call any of them recentish...;)
I guess that depends on how old you are.
They're definitely more recent (by 20 years or so) than The Bridge on the River Kwai, which was in colour, and would therefore be fairly recent for some on here :D
