Cheap places to stay in Elgin

My best friend has had to rush up there as her son has been admitted to the psychiatric hospital there. Clearly it's a really difficult situation, made more complex because it's going to cost a lot for her to stay somewhere. I wondered if anyone knew of any cheap accommodation up there? Thanks xxx

There are a couple of premier inn/travelodge-type places out on the main road by Linkwood that you may be able to find codes/discounts for but that's about it IIRC. Elgin has never been a particularly cheap place to stay - Even the tiny little cabins at the Loft by Kinloss were pushing fifty quid a night a few weeks ago!

ETA - Thunderton House off the High St has apparently reopened as a hostel at around twenty quid a night but reviews are pretty mixed.

There is also a small hostel at Findhorn at seventeen quid a night but its pretty well booked-up just now and a fairly poor bus service but here is the link anyway:

Excellent! This may be an option for her another time- she may even be able to volunteer in exchange for a bed. ( she is a yoga teacher, Thai masseur and reflexologist so I daresay she might fit in there)

Has she tried Airbnb? I had a quick look and there are some rooms in Elgin.
