Catastrophe

Some good lines so far tonight:

'come and get your butt fucked with me. help me heal'

'i hope your dogs get leukemia'

'second degree pregnancy'

middle aged american bloke gets middle aged irish woman pregnant on a one night stand and they try to forge a proper relationship.

i really like this series but a pity ~ Horgan has had her face done, everyone is getting their bleeding face done, makes me sad :-(

I've started watching it because of this thread. Definitely funny and pretty realistic apart from the ridiculously huge houses her friend and brother have.

Series 3 starts tonight on C4

We only discovered them last month and watched series 1 & 2 back to back in about 24 hours. Loved it.

Series 3 also sees the very last performance on the screen of the sorely missed Carrie Fisher. Apparently she has a much bigger role in this one.

Only just noticed that S3 is already halfway in.
Watched the first two episodes of it last night. V funny, esp the school scenes.

I was thinking more along the lines of did Rob commit hare kare and potentially leave his children to die?
Yeah it was a bit ambiguous! I'd read lots of horror on mumsnet about them drifting and the kids being left to die so was expecting it to be much worse - I don't think it was obvious that they were going to drown.

It was weird that he spotted the sign 'no swimming, rip tide' and joined her for a swim. I thought he was going to try and get her out!

I thought it was a metaphor. It's not really a sane thing, to have children with a stranger (and you don't know someone until you have a kid with them ) to throw your fate into the hands of this person, and it's a near certainty that you'll never get back to shore once you've done it.

Yet the astonishing thing is so many of us do precisely that, even when we know what is going to happen.

they were always swimming against the tide

I'm not sure it was... it seems far too cheesy.

I had to pause and rewind to see what it said on the sign, and the first thing that I thought was that he knew she was fucked!

Why wouldn't he have told her what the sign said instead of just being "lovey dovey" when he reached her. Plus he wasn't in the best head space at the time... mother had just died, battling alcoholism et cetera.

but then at the end they start swimming back to the coast. So yeah don't think they where offing themselves.

Maybe they're just selfish, impulsive people who don't consider the consequences or take precautions. 3rd surprise pregnancy ffs :D

By which point they were a considerable distance from the shoreline, and an almost impossible ask if they were supposed to be swimming against rip currents to reach safety.

To me it almost felt like he impulsively decided they weren't fit to be parents and life was on the whole a shitshow and bound to only get worse, so he decided he would let his wife and himself both drown to free themselves from existence, and their children from them.

But then that would be not only completely OTT, but an incredibly grim end to a series that had until then been nothing much more than a only slightly dark, bittersweet comedy. So I don't think (hope) my theory could possibly be right.

Ultimately I think its ambiguous end is nothing more than Horgan and Delaney having a laugh at our expense :D
