Fees, Cuts & Privatisation:
IS THIS THE BEST EDUCATION WE CAN GET?

DISCUSSION AT CARDIFF SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM, CARDIFF UNIVERSITY.

CARDIFF WIDE ASSEMBLY FOR EDUCATION

The protests, walkouts and occupations of last term were just the first chapter in a much longer struggle for the right to education and against the Con Dem austerity.
...
In 2011 university and college managements are gearing up to implement massive fees increases and cuts, students and staff are faced with vicious attacks on courses, jobs and the structure of our education. In England, EMA is to be abolished, while across Britain many from poorer families are being priced out of education.

We see the increasing presence of corporate interests on our campuses and the constant drive to put the needs of the market above the vitial needs of students and staff.

The first Cardiff Assembly for Education is open to students, staff and all supporters of our movement: let’s get together and discuss the future of education and how we can fight for it.

The struggle has begun..............

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." - Malcolm X

LEGENDARY LOCAL PROTEST SINGER - *COSMO* - WILL NOW BE TALKING A LITTLE ABOUT CUTS IN ESOL....

Education must begin with the solution of the teacher-student contradiction, by reconciling the poles of the contradiction so that both are simultaneously teachers and students." - PAULO FREIRE

"Tell me, and I forget. Show me, and I remember. Involve me, and I understand" - CHINESE PROVERB ON EDUCATION

"So once more we find ourselves in an old story: rich against poor—a growing oppression, debt, greed, tears, children afraid—an armed and marching vociferous right wing gaining upon us—and the need grows, first as a whisper, then louder each day—in the heart—to do something, rise up, reach out and act in concert with those whom, perhaps, we once passed by—passed each other by—but now, in this place—one sanctified by our own intentions—the noblest of causes appears to summon us: to alleviate the suffering, indentured student, to bring light where none is; restore a noble profession—teaching—to its nobility, and to repair the fabric of a beautiful human community of knowledge that is being sundered by fear and heartlessness—a fabric that all cultures, all peoples around the world hold in highest regard: the human community of learning...." -
