Car hire for a week, UK?

LOSE IT
Whats the best value for hiring a çar for longer than just a day or 2? I use hiya for a few hours, but guess its not so good for longer times. Is there a good comparison website, like the equivalent of skyscanner?

I always use Holiday Autos.

They are a broker for all the main companies plus loads of smaller, independent ones. Don't know if they are the absolute cheapest, but the rates always seem OK. The main thing is you pay upfront, including all necessary insurance and you don't get stung with unpleasant costs when you pick it up, which always seems to happen if you rent direct from the car hire company.

I use either Enterprise or Alamo who are essentially the same company, and operate on the same premises. I've used them in UK, Spain and the US and never had a problem with them.

You might also want to consider buying rental car insurance. It typically costs about £50 for a year’s cover. Only drawback is that it might take around six weeks for them to pay you up for any claim so you’d need to pay for any damages upfront to the hire company. But for a week’s car hire you’d easily be looking at £50 with a specialist car hire insurance policy vs. £300+ for the insurance offered by the car rental company you use.

Regardless of what option you go for, be sure to both photograph and video all sides of the car, and paying special attention to the alloy wheels. Doing so got me out of having to pay a damage claim not three weeks ago during a recent rental.
