Statement of the obvious, but the whole 'Sir Tom' thing is an example of good things being turned bad. Original story, old bloke doing something rather impressive. If he was already using a walker, 100 laps of this garden was probably rather painful as much as anything. But on he goes with it and the original response in terms of the money was raised was good - especially as it was about the NHS at a time it had been screwed by successive politicians. But here we are, madness of mawkish sentimentality and statues, all weaponised in support of the worst politicians and their ideologies. Up to the point where I doubt a single politician was able to say it was a fucking silly idea for his whole family to traipse off to Barbados. Crazy.

As I said above, Tom Moore had no idea that his idea of his small, personal contribution. To help raise a bit of cash and possible awareness would be something the shitty government and media latched onto. He just went along with it, but to me he always seemed reluctant to become the ‘national hero’. His family should be left to grieve and he should be left to rest. I hate all this false fawning by people who never knew him.
