Bush Justifies Iraq Invasion

pk

drink flounce rinse repeat
"We owe it to future generations ... cannot allow the world's worst leaders, with the worlds worst weapons, to expand and hold the world to ransom"

President Of The US of A, George W Bush - roughly dictated from the news just now.

I would say Bush is the world's worst leader, with the worlds worst weapons.

If he invades Iraq - fear the worse.

He may as well have said:

"War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength"

Would have been honest at least. Seriously though this is all getting like Orwell's nightmare. The war that never ends, the screaming propaganda, the ever powerful state randomly detaining people it dislikes (like the 1000 arab americans detained after september 11th). The question what can we do to stop this? All suggestions gratefull received.

It's all so fucking short-sighted. We have a President who can barely tie his own shoelaces and a set of political advisors whose only interest, it would seem, is to secure a second term and ensure Republican predominance in the mid-term elections thereby allowing the opportunity to shift the US legal system dramatically and more or less permanently to the right. It would seem that the way to do this is to secure yet more rallying round the flag and yet more deaths in a foriegn land.

The Orwellian parallels abound. Twenty years ago Saddam was an ally, now he's a pariah. Who are we at war with again?

Actually, I don't give a shit about Saddam Hussain nor the Baathists but I do care that thousands more Iraqis are going to be slaughtered on the alter of US aggression. Jesus! Will there come a point when someone in authority is going to say that these killings must end? Because as sure as shit ain't sugar destroying Iraq will not make it stop. Far from it.

I think the point is that we ourselves have to do something to stop the war. All those in authority are currently grovelling before Bush. Bastards!

so with this one sentence JWBush gave the reason for the war, considerating all pros and cons?

his predecessors use to give slightly longer explanations

o tempora, o mores

Yesterday sky news told me, to my extreme surprise, that some people think that an invasion of Iraq "would not be justified either legally or morally"

Well, you learn somthing new...

This just proves what many of us who oppose Bush + Blair have said. That no matter what Saddam and his clique do the US will attack as they've already decided to do so. All that stuff about "weapons of mass destruction" was an enormous lie, in reality this is just what the US has been waiting for. A chance to impose itself everywhere and to eliminate all sources of even perceived opposition (even from former allies like Bin Laden and Saddam).

I think luck is now in short supply in Baghdad.

I believe this is correct. WMD in Iraq are a bad thing, but that's not the point. Saddam has been a pain in the ass for too long, supporting terrorism, etc. He's tweaked the dragon's tail one time too many, and here come the flames.

Anyone see Newsnight 2nite? Billy Grahams son was on. That is why we should seriously worry about the US at the moment. There are extreme religious fanatics all over the World and a certain type of them are now informing US administration policy, God (whoever's clothes he is wearing) help us all.

Sure JC2 saddam is a bastard no-ones contesting that. But ask yourself this - who will suffer most? The answer is the ordinary people of Iraq whose only crime is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thats why I and others like me oppose this thing because the main guy (saddam) will be god knows how many feet under in a very secure bunker. So he will not suffer one bit the people on the ground will and that just aint right.
